A band whose one single song was enough to convince me of the magic in their singing, The Script.
“Cause if one day you wake up and find that you’re missing me,
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be,
Thinking maybe you’ll come back here to the place that we’d meet,
And you’ll see me waiting for you on the corner of the street.”
~The Man Who Can’t Be Moved
This song not only moved me but possibly millions around the world who share the same opinion as me. It is an awesome song to start with. You can’t help but get that feeling of hope surge through you, every time you listen to this song. The music video only adds and emphasizes the sincerity, dedication, commitment and intensity of the man who continues loving his girl no matter what happens. The vocals and the music complement the lyrics perfectly.
The Script is an Irish pop rock band formed in 2001. The band consists of lead vocalist/pianist Danny O’Donoghue, vocalist/guitarist Mark Sheehan, and drummer Glen Power.
They released their debut album “The Script” in 2008. This album marked the arrival of the band on the world stage. Many singles of this album peaked on the Billboard as the band enjoyed massive success.
“The Man Who Can’t Be Moved“, “Breakeven” and “We Cry” are the most popular ones. The album was ferociously good, fresh and compelling. Moreover Danny O’Donoghue’s vocals were widely praised.
Each and every song of this band tells a story of its own. Of love and hope, of sorrow and despair, of faith and trust, of inspiration and belief. The message conveyed to us through these songs is crystal clear.
Their songs are unabashedly cheesy yet uncluttered. A streamlined flow of emotions is a necessity of each and every song of theirs.
Their second album “Science & Faith” released in 2010 was an even greater success. “For The First Time“, “Nothing“, “Long Gone And Moved On“, “If You Ever come Back” are notable mentions.
“But we’re gonna start by drinking old cheap bottles of wine,
Sit talking up all night, saying things we haven’t for a while, a while, yeah,
We’re smiling but we’re close to tears, even after all these years,
We just now got the feeling that we’re meeting for the first time.”
~For The First Time
It’s a wonderful song without any doubt. Soulful and mesmerizing, this song conveys the bright side of every dark day in a compelling fashion. The video, the lyrics and the music create a spellbinding impression and you feel like crying and smiling at the same time. The song touches you and I am sure it causes a tingling sensation in your heart as you keep falling in love with this song every time you hear it.
Even after being married together for 30 years, you feel like “For The First Time“. That’s how incredible this song is.
Their third album “#3” was released in 2012. “Hall Of Fame“, “Six Degrees Of Separation” and “If You Could See Me Now” are my favorite ones from this album.
“Yeah, you can be the greatest,
You can be the best,
You can be the King Kong banging on your chest.
You can beat the world,
You can beat the war,
You can talk to God, go banging on his door.
You can throw your hands up,
You can beat the clock (yeah),
You can move a mountain,
You can break rocks,
You can be a master,
Don’t wait for luck,
Dedicate yourself and you gon’ find yourself.
Standing in the hall of fame (yeah),
And the world’s gonna know your name (yeah),
‘Cause you burn with the brightest flame (yeah),
And the world’s gonna know your name (yeah),
And you’ll be on the walls of the hall of fame.”
~Hall Of Fame
This is one of the most inspirational songs ever. This song motivates you to regain your strength and helps you back on your recovery track. It challenges us to achieve the dream we dreamt and fulfill the ambitions we set for ourselves. As I would like to put it, the song is an instant and immediate upliftment from your moments of despair and sorrow and a much needed infusion of strength.
“It was February fourteen, Valentine’s Day,
The roses came, but they took you away,
Tattooed on my arm is a charm to disarm all the harm,
Gotta keep myself calm but the truth is you’re gone,
And I’ll never get to show you these songs,
Dad, you should see the tours that I’m on,
I see you standing there next to Mom.”
~If You Could See Me Now
This is one of their most underrated songs. This song takes you through the journey of pain and loss of loved ones. It tells you everything about loving someone and burst of emotions on losing them which makes your eyes moist. It’s an ode to our loved ones.
Yet another song which depicts the inherent ability of The Script to tell a story in a few lines.
“You hit the drink, you take a toke,
Watch the past go up in smoke, yeah,
Fake a smile, yeah, lie and say that,
You’re better now than ever, and your life’s okay,
When it’s not. No.
You’re doing all these things out of desperation,
You’re going through six degrees of separation.”
~Six Degrees Of Separation
A breakup is something that we hesitate to talk or think about but this song puts the state of mind of an individual after breakup perfectly in its words. The music is hard hitting and the pain of separation can be heard in their voices.
They released their fourth album “No Sound Without Silence” this year. “Superheroes” is the one I like the most from this album.
“Cause he’s stronger than you know,
A heart of steel starts to grow.
When you’ve been fighting for it all your life,
You’ve been struggling to make things right,
That’s how a superhero learns to fly,
Every day, every hour,
Turn the pain into power.”
The Script is the next big thing and their songs are an ample evidence of this. The vocals are endearing, heart warming and powerful. O’Donoghue’s vocals have a wide spectrum and his voice is a soulful rendition of what we face in everyday life.
The music is absolutely wonderful and together with the lyrics creates an atmosphere which makes you feel nostalgic as you travel through an emotional roller coaster ride.
This ride of The Script is a soul touching experience. It touches you, pulls your heart strings and creates an ambience like no one else.
Music moves us and The Script echoes that.
